October 2020 - President’s Message

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Hi once again everyone......another month has come and gone and we are still waiting to get things rolling.......and unfortunately, with not much luck. We continue to wait, so rather than offer any more false positives I have decided to reach outside the box and offer a little light-hearted message that I ran across and thought you might enjoy. It’s entitled “Eating in the 50’s” and since many of us were there during the time it seems appropriate.......here goes...

Pasta had not yet been invented yet so it was macaroni or spaghetti....Curry was a surname and a take away was a mathematical problem....Pizza was a leaning tower, all chips were plain and bananas and oranges only appeared at Christmas....Oil was for lubricating, fat was for cooking and tea was made from leaves, in a pot and never green....Cubed sugar was regarded as posh, chickens did not have fingers, yogurt was unheard of and healthy food was anything edible....Cooking outside was called camping, seaweed was not recognized as food, kebab was not even a word let alone something to eat....Sugar was regarded as white gold, prunes were medicinal, and surprisingly enough muesli was readily available and sold as cattle food....Pineapple came as chunks in a tin and the only real ones you ever saw were in a picture....Water came out of a tap and if you ever mentioned bottling it and selling it for twice the price of gasoline you would have become the laughing stock....and first and foremost was that the one thing you never saw on the table in the 50’s were elbows, hats and cell phones..........and I’ll leave it there.

Until the next time.... ADIOS my friends.....”STAY WELL”......gk
