October 2021 - President’s Message
A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
Greetings All!!....Another month has come and ANOTHER month has gone. I worry about both of those things but in very different ways. The one that is coming always has some hope for something a little better....and goodness we need just a little bit of that. But the thing that concerns me most and I'm sure you as well, is the month that has just gone. Like so many months before it, it seems like such a waste of time, time that is such a precious commodity in these "SENIOR YEARS" of ours.
Back when times were much better and we were much younger, many of you music lovers out there may remember, the dynamic vocal duo of "Sonny & Cher", bringing us a song called "The Beat Goes On". The lyrics, as I think back, were quite good, as the "BEAT" was used as a metaphor to represent life in general. The BEAT, or better still Life, continues just like the rhythm of a drum and does not cease to change even when things are lost or gained. And I think that somehow relates well to this wretched COVID thing....."THE BEAT GOES ON".
Your executive held a rare meeting a week or so back to discuss things past, things present, and things coming. There was some excellent discussion on the various happenings and updates at the Evergreen Club. We are looking ahead. Janet and her team have done just an excellent job in keeping things alive during this ridiculous pandemic and as a result we are now starting to see the fruits of their labor. Things are slowly starting to open up and the activity level is on the rebound. There are rules and regulations to comply with of course but for the most part our membership is cooperative. That is great of course and wonderful to see. Hopefully that train in the tunnel will continue it's progress and somehow with continued effort we will move toward normality and a better life here at the Evergreen club.
Some "Covid Reflections" caught my attention and I though I might pass a couple along. I guess we should retire the expression "Avoid It Like The Plague" given how little effort some people put in to avoiding an actual plague........and another..."Insisting on your rights without acknowledging your responsibilities isn't freedom, it's adolescence".......and just one more...."So, you've been eating hot dogs, chicken nuggets and processed meat all your life, but you won't get a shot because you don't know what's in it.....aren't you a special kind of stupid" ......and there are so many more.....
That's a wrap for now.... "Stay safe, Stay well, and be kind and respectful to those around you....Adios!!!...gk
