President’s Message - March 2024
A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
Greetings Everyone!!!.....so quickly it seems that another month has passed us by. February of 2024 was a special kind of month because it had that one extra day and that meant it was a "Leap Year". Those amongst us whose birthday falls on February 29th finally had another birthday and became four years older since the last one in 2020. But the beauty of that is that they need not fret another until 2028.....or so the story goes. I think I'm a little off here but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. In actual fact or what may be considered scientific fact, leap year is simply a calender year that contains an additional day and it all has to do with variations in the earths rotation period. I'm going to stop here on discussing this further because I feel like I may be getting into something I may not be able to get out of. However there is a multitude of information on line that will keep the curious amongst us busy for hours.....check it out as it is all quite interesting.
Now it's onward and forward to things that make our club the special place that it is. Our "Special Events" are a very important part of who we are and what we do. Our Executive Committee Members are always looking for new and exciting ideas to mould an activity around. We have put together some great happenings over the years and we want to carry on.
There is planning ongoing to see some great events materialize over the next couple of years....and we are always looking for new ideas.....and always looking for those members who might like to be part of the process. If you are one of those people who would like to be part of this please step forward.
Activity clubs are another integral part of our Evergreen Club and several of our “SEASONAL ACTIVITY CLUBS” are prepping for a busy season. Golf, Horseshoes, and Slo-Pitch will be starting soon. Member appreciation events are very important part of Evergreen life and after a very successful Valentines Day party we are now gearing up for a St. Patrick’s Day Party complete with live music. This will take place in the lounge on Thursday March 14th. After that it’s the “Members Easter Turkey Dinner on Wednesday March 27th. Also want to mention a special trip that is upcoming. On Sunday April 7th we are traveling to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver to see “Hairspray The Musical”. All of the details for this event are provided in this newsletter. This is a special opportunity to see a fabulous Broadway show.
I go now but just before I do.......Look forward to your next birthday as Birthdays Are Good For You.....statistics show that people who have the most, live the longest.....AND......When your friends begin to flatter you on how young you look, it's a sure sign you are getting old.
