President’s Message - April 2024

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Greetings All! ....another month has come and gone in what it seems like a heartbeat.....and April is here to usher in the summer of 2024. And what will it be you ask?? After doing some very serious research on your behalf I have found that is to be a summer of what they refer to as “seesaw temperatures” with an overall warm season. There will be however, occasions of cold Canadian air blowing in. The Pacific Northwest is forecast to be quite dry but with somewhat more moderate temperatures than the previous couple of summers. The Southwest on the other hand shows a prediction of hot, dry conditions....and there you have it.....SUMMER 2024 in a nutshell.

And now it’s back home to the Evergreen News. First of all I’d like to mention an upcoming 1 day closure on Thursday April 18. On that day the entire Filberg Centre building has been rented out and all Evergreen Club activities have been cancelled for that day. The Kitchen and Lounge will also be closed. Please refer to other areas of this newsletter for any further details. The club continues to be a very busy place and it’s exciting to see our people busy with our many activities. The Special Events Team have been very busy group and continue to work on a wide variety of upcoming events. The Rock & Roll Pub Night, which was very popular last year, will be back on Saturday April 13th. The band will be back and the bar will be have license to serve beer, wine and coolers.

The Pub Night was a big “FUNDRAISER” last year and we would like to see that happen again this year, so put on your bobby sox kids and come down and rock the evening away.

There will be a Volunteer Appreciation event on Wednesday April 24 for all those hard working volunteers that keep our club going. You can find further details in this newsletter. There will be an Activity Club Reps meeting on Monday April 8th in the Conference Hall and club reps are encouraged to attend. It's your opportunity to get together with your executive and tell us all about your particular club and how things are going. Slo-Pitch and Golf are starting up in April as well. The Trip Program continues in popularity and the trips normally fill up quite quickly. If you have any ideas about future day trips or trips in general you should pass them along to Janet or Cathy. I'd like to pass along a very big "THANK YOU" to Floor Curling, Bean Bag,Carpet Bowling and the Quilters for their generous monetary donations to the Evergreen Club Contingency Fund. Those kind of donations are vital for a smooth continued operation...THANKS AGAIN.

That about wraps it up for now, but first a couple of closing comments.......... It's paradoxical that the idea of living a long life appeals to most everyone but the idea of getting old does not appeal to anyone.....and.....you know you are getting old when just about everything begins to hurt and what does not hurt does not work......ADIOS my friends...gk
