March 2022 - President’s Message
A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
Greetings, One and All!!!......Remember that train that I have been waiting for, for the last many months.....well maybe, just maybe, it may be nearing the station. It seems to have gathered a little momentum....and good old reality tempered with a little new sanity is driving it there. The most recent "Bonnie Bundle” has enabled us to enjoy something we haven't had for a very long time......sensible and full operation at the Evergreen Club.
Most of our activities are slowly getting back to normal and there seems to be cautious optimism about the future. Even Friday Night Dance is just around the corner as three dances are scheduled for March. Masks and proof of vaccination are still with us but hopefully for not too much longer. Day trips are looking at a return and that's great. These trips were very popular with our members and I know many of you are patiently waiting for their return. One of the initial trips will apparently be a day in Victoria to visit the Royal BC Museum and find out all about the Orcas that travel our local waters.......should be a great trip. I notice that there is something new happening at the Evergreen that I'm sure will become very popular. The Cinema Club has evolved and is happening on Wednesdays at 12:45 pm in the craft room.....some great classic movies are being shown....and even cushioned chairs and popcorn....WoW!!! So all in all it seems that we are getting very close to a complete turn around and our "Very Special Club" is becoming very special once again.
One thing I would like to mention before I go is membership. Covid and it's variants has hurt our numbers it seems and as as we start to normalize for the better days ahead it would be great to get our membership numbers up. I have noticed some new faces at the club and that’s great. We have a lot to offer the 55 plus folks and it would be great if our present members would spread the word. New residents are coming to the valley every day and a lot of them are retired and semi-retired. It would be great to have these "newbies" as members. So get the word out about the Evergreen and all it has to offer....and let's get our membership numbers up.
So that's a wrap for the moment....Stay well and enjoy our new found freedoms.....and ponder this....."A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory"....adios...gk
