April 2022 - President’s Message

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergeen Club president

Greetings once again to everyone!!!.....It seems that time is passing me by much too quickly. April has snuck up on us after a very fast March has passed us by like a flash of lightning. It seems to me that I had just commented on the new tomorrow in my March report and all of a sudden it's April. The "Bonnie Bundle " is holding and it really does seem that things have improved a lot and made our recovery real. Our in house clubs are in many cases well off into a new future and the Evergreen is once again in action.....well done to all of us for hanging in and a very special thanks to the "Janet Group" and their leadership. And thank you to all those who have become the new in-house club leaders. Some are returnees and some are newbies but all are filling a much needed leadership role and getting our clubs off the ground. I'm sure many new things are being planned and I certainly look forward to the many new ideas that I'm sure will turn into new happenings.

One of the big things taking place is the moving out of the Vaccination Clinic from the upper area of the building. Janet is now in the process of booking groups that use the Soroptimist Room and the Conference Hall for their April and beyond activities. It will be an absolutely great thing to have access to the upstairs once again.....not only for the rooms, but also the parking and upper level entrance. The space restrictions that we've had to deal with over Covid have been an absolute pain. I'm sure that the Drama Club for instance are pretty pumped to have their playpen back. We will all be looking forward to some new and exciting productions.

Renewed activities mean new opportunities for all of us.........so it's time to spread your wings and get involved. For those that have been around for awhile, it will mean getting back to the activities you love and for those who are new to our club, it will mean finding your favorite spot or spots. There really is something for everyone at the freshly re-minted EVERGREEN SENIORS. Studies on AGING have shown that Social Interaction and Close Human Relationships are at the top of the list when it comes to living a long life. Yes, things like exercise, quitting smoking, getting vaccinated etc. are significant and important, but not as important as the two things I mentioned......so get involved.......remember that "BIRTHDAYS ARE GOOD".......the more you have, the longer you live.

That’s a wrap my friends......ADIOS from the Presidential Palace.....gk
