May 2020 - President's Message

Greetings Everyone!!!.......As I sit here and put this article together I am wondering what I could possibly say at a time like this that would be worthwhile. What a terribly strange and most difficult time. As we were gathered into the arms of Corona several weeks ago, I had determined that life would not be quite the same. That has certainly proven true in the first few weeks. My thoughts and experiences so far through all of this "Corona Time" are a confused mess of everything I really never wanted to experience or think. Like most of you, I have had enough......in fact I had had enough several weeks ago shortly after this aftermath started. I feel for our membership during all of this. I know that the Evergreen Club is a significant part of life for so many of you. The socialization factor alone is very important part for so many of us.
Hopefully things will get better as we eventually get back to some kind of a normality. As we’ve heard many times from Doctor Bonnie and other persons that play a leadership role in all of this...”we are all in this together and we must support and help each other as best we can and in any way we can”. We will get through this at some point....and life will return to a normal, even if it’s a somewhat different type of normal.
An interesting and rewarding thing to do at a time like this might be to think about the friends you hold close and how each is so different of character......and how it is possible to get and give the good with each of them......and how each of them brings out a different part of you. With some you listen and share problems....with some you may share advice....with some you may joke and be naughty......with some you may be serious....and with some you may laugh a lot. Friends are of critical importance during these trying times.......friends are good for your health and essential to one's well being. People that have strong social circles are far less likely to suffer from depression, stress and other serious health issues.....you can be many years younger than your age. So, value your friends and stay in touch with them.....friendship lets you grow separately without growing apart.
Remember what Doctor Bonnie says..."We are in this thing together". Stay strong!!!.....see you at the Evergreen.....Maybe June????
And I'll leave you with this......Definition of Irony is gasoline under a dollar a liter and no place to go......ADIOS!!!....gk
