September 2020 - President’s Message
A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
Well, once again it's "HELLO" to everyone....if I remember correctly, it was one month ago that I opened by telling you that there seemed little hope for re-opening our "Evergreen Club" any time soon.......well it's September now and there appears to be a glimmer of hope. We held an executive meeting along with our Club Coordinator Janet on September 3rd to further discuss our future and re-opening. It was a good meeting with a lot of great input from all members of the executive. When all was said and done and our discussions were completed, we unanimously agreed by vote to pursue a re-opening. I will not go into all the detail here but Janet will provide you with a summary of exactly where we are in all of this in her report which is in this issue of the newsletter. Please read what she has to say. Covid 19 has provided for a difficult time for our membership and I fully understand your wish to get it all going again. IF and WHEN we do get things moving soon, it probably will be considerably different than it was in the good old "Covid Free Days". Janet and her team have been working very hard to design a plan of attack to meet the new requirements of rules and regulations. Again, please read Janet's report to see all of the detail.
All things considered, we have been quite fortunate here on the Island. In comparison with other areas of Canada our numbers of cases have been very low and deaths due to Covid have been few on the Island. My hope is that there will be no big second wave this fall but according to the experts there is every chance that that may happen......let's hope that the experts have got it wrong. Keep the masks handy and watch that social distancing......and try to keep the stress down. Keep your breathing rate down as this is one of the best ways to limit stress and this will help signal your brain to relax your body. It's a great idea to reach out and keep in contact with trusted friends. Try and keep a healthy routine........Be kind to yourself and others........Reach out for HELP if and when you need it.
Hopefully by the time I get to write my next report things will have improved somewhat and that so called light at the end of the tunnel will be much brighter. With hard work and a certain amount of good luck we may see that happen......STAY WELL MY FRIENDS!!!........Adios....gk
