July/August 2020 - President’s Message
Submitted by Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club President
Greetings Everyone!!!......Another month has passed and I had hoped that by this time I would have something positive to pass along.....but unfortunately, not yet. The city is not yet ready to open our facility and we will have to continue our very patient wait for our club to re-open. We had an Executive Meeting on Monday morning and we decided to extend the shutdown on all club activities for the summer. If the city’s position changes at some point during the summer months we would certainly reconsider our decision. Dissemination of this information is necessary and is critical to our members having accurate information instead of meaningless rumours. Support for each other is an essential part of our COVID response.
In fairness to the city I must admit that they are somewhat hog-tied. They must meet a number of Provincial guidelines in the “opening up” and that is not an easy task. Protection of workers is a major issue. Many of the provincial rules are in play right here at the Evergreen. Distancing and masking are two major issues and we already know the mixed reaction that’s out there in the big world around us concerning those two issues. So there is really no beating around the bush.....we are still on hold....it’s that simple.
I certainly hope that everyone is doing OK and that we can with further patience, wait this thing out. It’s pretty unforgiving stuff that we are dealing with. As Dr. Bonnie says....BE KIND, BE CALM, BE SAFE. See you all back at the Filberg Center soon I hope.
ADIOS for now....gk
