President’s Message - January 2024

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Greetings All!!.....I'm writing this in what's left of '23 and you will hopefully read it in the newly minted '24. What on earth ever happened to the last 23 years? I vividly remember all the concern and anxiety that was so prominent as we neared the year 2000. The world was expected to stop turning and this new computerized world was going to gobsmack us. That whole scenario was played out some 23 years ago....and so I'll ask again.....what on earth happened to the last 23 years? It seems to have gone by in a flash....and by the way, the earth seems to have continued to rotate properly and the geeks are still out there creating new operating systems. And let us not forget that COVID robbed us of some valuable time. Anyway, enough of this chin-wag.

Now let's turn our attention to what's current and what may lie ahead. Seems as though the Members Turkey Dinner was a smashing success. Alisha and her volunteer crew served 140 turkey dinners. Many, many thanks to the volunteer crew for getting it done and making it such a great day. And by the way, THANKS to our Cathy for arranging the entertainment. We hope to keep expanding our Travel and Day Trip Program. There seems to be a lot of interest amongst our membership for these trips. There's a couple in January that will be popular. These include a January Mystery Trip on January 30th and the Cirque du Soleil trip to Victoria on Sunday January 14th. Details can be found in the newsletter.

A "Murder Mystery Night" is scheduled for Wednesday January 31st at 1pm and Thursday February 1st at 6:30pm. This show is a fundraiser for our club and apparently is a first for our Evergreen Club.

We are having our membership meeting on Monday January 22nd at 10am. We encourage members to attend and there will be opportunity for a Q&A on all things Evergreen. We have a Guest Speaker for the event in the person of the Mayor of Courtenay, Bob Wells. He will discuss the Evergreen Club and other issues that pertain to seniors. Our membership continues to grow and we are now somewhere over 2000. Prospective members are welcome to drop in and experience our programs at no charge before taking out a membership.

So now it's forward and onward with another NEW YEAR. May yours be filled with many smiles, many good times and much good health. May many happy moments come your way and may your days be of much gain and little pain.

Wishing you a great year ahead.......

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE"....ADIOS!!...gk
