President’s Message - December 2023
A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
"SEASONS GREETINGS"...and a "Very Merry Christmas" to all.
Why was it that in our youthful years that wonderful day seemed to take forever to come around but as we travel down the road of life it seems to come around again and again at a much quicker pace... and we are another year older. At least that’s the way it seems to me as I endorse the 2023 version of the Christmas cheques to the grandsons back east. It's the sad truth that the good things in life pass us by much more quickly as we become ancient. However, let us not dwell on the complexities of aging but keep our spirits high as we enjoy another Christmas season.
Christmas is a time of giving thanks and my first thought is to give special thanks to our "Leadership Ladies" Janet, Cathy and Alisha. They have been stalwart in their individual roles and along with those amongst you who have chosen to VOLUNTEER either now or in the past, provide the kind of wonderful club the Evergreen is. Many thanks to this group for their hard work and a very Merry Christmas to them. We take pride in our membership, which by the way is now over 2000, and, on behalf of my executive committee members and myself, I wish you all a wonderful Christmas Season.
Onward and forward.....just want to mention a couple of events that took place in November. The Music of the War Years event was extremely well done and was very well received by all that attended...great audience. The Christmas Craft Market was very busy and we raised over $1500 for the club. Upcoming December events will start with a visit by the Comox Valley Concert Band on Sunday December 3rd with a Wintertide theme. A drama show called cScattered Skits is next up on Tuesday December 5th and Wednesday December 6th followed by a Choristers Sing Along on Friday December 8th. The Friday Night Dance gang will have their Friday night dance on December 15th with a Christmas theme and the Members’ Turkey dinner will be held on Wednesday December 20th. And if that is not enough to keep you happy and occupied, this year’s New Year’s Eve Party will have a Tropical Theme on Sunday December 31st. Last year’s New Year’s party was a sold out success so you might want to get tickets soon if you are planning to come. Don't forget that there will be a "Membership Meeting" in January with details to follow.
And to end it......How do the Elves clean Santa's Sleigh on the day after Christmas? They Use Santa-Tiser......Adios and a MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL..... gk
