September 2022 - President’s Message
A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
Well, how about this?? ...as I put this message together, I see by the calendar that it's almost September. It seems that summer is slipping by very quickly after a rather disastrous wet start back there in May and June. Things certainly did improve over the last couple of months and we mortals who are lucky enough to live in the Comox Valley were able to enjoy some great weather.....the kind that we are accustomed to. Anyway, it is just about September and our Evergreen Club will now be seeing that fall revival of events and activities. I want to welcome you all back for what will be an eventful time with most of the COVID stuff in the rear view. I also want to welcome our many new members that have decided to join us. Janet tells me that memberships are almost back to pre-pandemic numbers, and that is great news. So to those who have re-joined and to those that are newbies I say "WELCOME". I do hope that your time with us will be rewarding and worthwhile. We are delighted to have you on board.
There are a couple of things that I would like to mention as we re-start our programs and activities. The first is to tell you all about the “OPEN HOUSE” that we are planning for Wednesday September 28th.....from 10 am to 2 pm. It will be an ideal time for our new members and prospective members that may be thinking about joining to familiarize with all we have to offer. If you would like to get involved, we are looking for volunteers.....to be greeters, to look after the membership table, and to man the history table. If you are interested, please talk to Cathy or Janet. There will also be entertainment and door prizes.
The other event I would like to mention is our our Fall Fashion Show which will be held on Wednesday, September 14th. One of our club directors, Riki Jager has been very busy putting together the show and I understand that we are getting good cooperation from local businesses. My good friend Erik Erickson will be on hand to provide some great entertainment with his keyboard and vocals that will be familiar to you. We hope to see a good crowd on hand as it is an important fundraiser for the club. And just to let you know well ahead of time...we are now planning a New Years Eve event which has been missing for the last couple of COVID years.
Anyway, that’s about a wrap for this time around. Once again, may I give a very warm welcome to all the new members.....and a BIG welcome back to those members who took a summer hiatus. I just know it's going to be a great season ahead at the Evergreen Club. We have a lot going on here.....more than enough to keep you all involved and interested.......
ADIOS!!...gk
