July/August 2022 - President’s Message

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Greetings Once Again Everyone!!!....It appears that summer has finally made its arrival....a long wait, but worth waiting for if it proves to be one of those great Island summers with great doses of sunshine and clear shiny days....time will tell, but be hopeful. Things are pretty much back to normal at the Evergreen and it’s great to see all the smiles and happy faces. We had a great Volunteer Appreciation Event back in early June and from all that I have heard from our volunteer members things went very well. Hats off to Cathy for putting in the hard work to make it happen after a two year wait due to Covid. Great food along with wonderful hospitality and some superb entertainment by the “Singing Custodian” made it all come together.......”Thanks Cathy”.

With things running along quite smoothly and the summer of ‘22 upon us I haven’t got too much to say but I would like to mention a few events over the summer that might interest you. Three explorer type day trips include the Denman Explorer on Saturday, July 9th, the Deep Bay trip on Wednesday, July 20th, and the Quadra Explorer on Thursday, August 11th. If you have not been to any of these locations lately I think it might be well worth the visit and rewarding as well. Details on all of these day trips can be found in this newsletter. Seating is of course limited by bus size so you might want to check these out very soon. Another very interesting day trip will happen on Saturday August 20th. It’s a 14 hour day trip to to the big city to see a matinee production of “Come From Away” at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre. This show has won best musical awards across North America. Again details are available in the newsletter. And by the way, watch for many more upcoming trips as our leading ladies are always exploring new ideas and locations......and in fact are also looking for your suggestions on places to go, people to meet, and things to see. If you have some ideas, talk to Cathy or Janet.

With that I’m going to call it a wrap and I’ll see you again in our September newsletter. Until then stay safe and stay well.....and enjoy what I hope will be a wonderful summer. And I’ll leave you with a little something to think about......”If it’s true that we are here to help others....then what exactly are the others here for?”

Adios Amigos...gk
