May 2022 - President’s Message
A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
Greetings everyone......another month has passed and this time it really feels like our little world down at the Evergreen Club has turned the corner. It really does seem like the world has changed. The pandemic seems to be winding down and we seem to be getting back to a new reality. Our members are moving about the facility with more confidence and we really are a busy place. Most of our clubs are functioning at some level and our members are just a much happier bunch and socializing is once again in fashion. I guess it's sort of a healing process as we heal from the impacts that Covid provided. I'm sure we can all provide stories from the pandemic but I think that the biggest and most important story is the one of rebirth and the onset of new beginnings.
However we must still be aware and we must still remain vigilant of what could still possibly be. Our Executive recently made the decision to continue following the provincial guidelines when it comes to our behavior as Covid continues to play out in it's sixth wave. One of the things that Dr. Bonnie has said is that hopefully the province won't have to resume public health orders around masking and social distancing.....BUT....she warns that it's still too early to know this for sure. If a new and more energetic Covid variant does emerge in the fall we could be right back where we started. Since none of that is what we want it remains incumbent on all of us to do our part to keep things safe.....and be always aware of the amount of risk we should take in our daily lives. It's really a shift of the weight of decision making from public health officials to individual citizens.
Just a quick heads up on a couple of great social happenings that will take place in May. A "Mothers Day Concert" will happen on Sunday May 8th with the Comox Valley Band in house. Festivities stat at 2 pm with doors open at 1:30 pm. It's a celebration of 75 years of music with selected compositions that span seven decades. It's going to be a good one so grab some tickets and join us.....ten bucks a head with under twelve's "FREE". The other big event is a presentation by the Second Stage Players. "Murphy's Wake" will happen on Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 29....again it's a 2pm start.....just $10 a head either in advance or at the door.
And that’s a wrap for this one my friends....Stay safe and enjoy a little of our new found freedom....and remember, "Artificial Intelligence is no match for Natural Stupidity".........adios!!!...gk
