President’s Message - July/August 2025
A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
Greetings Everyone!!... Summer has arrived and there is no better place to be than in the Comox Valley when summer has come... so many things to do, so many things to see, so many places to go. Never take this place for granted because it is a little paradise all on it's own and full of surprises. And here you are... already here and ready to take advantage of it all. If all goes well and we have one of those typical Comox Valley summers of sunshine and clear skies. However, we must also have a few rainy periods to ease the forest fire dangers that we have already seen in spring months that have just passed. Keep in mind that "aging well in the Comox Valley" should be utmost on your mind. Engagement in mild physical activities, eating nutritious meals, engaging in community involvement, having close connections with friends and family and having a sense of purpose are all factors for lifelong good health... and of course living in the Comox Valley helps too.
The Evergreen Club has had a very busy winter season. We have increased membership numbers and those numbers continue to climb. We certainly have recovered from the "COVID Era". The number of activity clubs continues to rise. Some of our clubs will be taking a bit of a hiatus over July and August but will resume full activity come September.
Our Pub Nights will also take a break in July and August but are scheduled to return on the first Friday of the month in September. Friday night dances will also change its schedule and there will be only two dances in each of July and August. The dates for the Friday Night Dances are listed in this newsletter.
Right around the corner on Tuesday, July 1st is the Canada Day Tea Dance at the Native Sons Hall with the Georgia Strait Big Band. This is a free event for the community and is put on by Evergreen Club and the City of Courtenay. On Wednesday, July 9th there will be a Christmas In July Turkey Lunch, with entertainment provided. Our annual Ice Cream Social will happen on Wednesday, August 13th at Riverside Park and again, entertainment will be part of the program. The Kitty Coleman Picnic will take place on Wednesday, July 30th at Kitty Coleman Provincial Park. Start time is 11:30 am and our very own Greg DeSchutter will entertain. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Further details are provided in this newsletter. There are a couple of upcoming trips to mention. The Cowichan Valley Tour will happen on Friday, August 15th. Further details on these two trips are available in this newsletter.
That's about a wrap for now my friends... Have a great summer, stay safe and healthy... and remember... "Age is merely the number of years the world has been enjoying YOU"..................ADIOS!!... gk
