President’s Message - June 2025
A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
Greetings to all!!... The month of June has arrived... in the northern hemisphere the 6th month of the year is known for the coming of summer celebration and summer's actual arrival... also June 21st is the longest day of the year. Believe it or not the daylight hours start to dwindle after as we work through the summer months. We have been experiencing a mixed bag of weather thus far but indications are that we should be looking forward to warmer and sunnier times. June has always been a popular wedding month and is also the month we celebrate Father's Day. June's full moon is typically the last full moon of spring or the first of summer and has traditionally been called the "Strawberry Moon". There is much more of this kind of information in the Old Farmers Almanac.
Enough of this June chatter. Let's look at Evergreen news for June. You should be receiving this newsletter just before May 31st so in case you have forgotten and still do not have a ticket, the evergreen Spring Ball takes place this Saturday in the Conference Hall. Tickets are sold in advance or at the door so you still have time to grab a ticket... this is a fundraiser and should be a great evening. It will be an elegant evening and a chance to dress in your best. The next Evergreen Pub night will take place on Friday, June 6th from 7:00 to 10:00 pm in the Rotary Hall. Music will be provided by Overboard. There will be a cash bar with beer, wine and cider and snacks will be available for purchase. Tickets for this event will be in advance only.
It's also time to start thinking about the July 1st Canada Day Tea Dance in the Native Sons Hall at 2:00 pm. There are a couple of trips coming up that deserve mention. The Capital City Tour on Wednesday, June 25th still has some seats available, as well as the Sail to the Symphony Concert in Powell River on June 21st. Also, we have two new trips announced this month; Gabriola Island Mystery Trip on Thursday, July 17th.. We have a trip that is a little different from our normal trips, as we are asking you to meet us at Kitty Coleman. This will be A Picnic with Greg Deschutter. Greg will provide the entertainment... and we provide the picnic on July 30th.
Also, deserving mention is our Friday Night Dances. We will have The Amigos on June 13th & 27th and Double Play on the 20th. These Friday night Dances are great opportunities to dance to live music... Come on out and join us.
And to all those members that have a birthday in June I say, "thanks for joining me"... I'm about to add another year and like yourselves, I just can't believe how fast it has gone by... anyway "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to the June group... and that's a wrap... ADIOS my friends!!
