May 2023 - President's Message
A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
Once again it's greetings to all......the month of May is about to set upon us and I have a few things to pass along. Normally a short weather discussion comes up at this juncture so why change now. After suffering through what seemed like ENDLESS rain and wind over the last few weeks, it seems that help is on the way. Higher temperatures and sunshine are all the talk now as the weather news is headed in a positive direction. The weather guy is talking 20 plus by the weekend so shake out the shorts and get ready.
I have to pass along several kudos for things well done over the last couple of weeks. For starters the "Turkey Luncheon" held on Wednesday April 5th was by all accounts a wonderful affair and our food gal Alisha and her crew did a great job....wonderful grits and warm hospitality too....a great combination. A couple of weeks later on Wednesday April 19th it was our Special Events and Volunteer Coordinator Cathy and crew who provided us with a great "Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon". It was a great afternoon of fun, frolic and food and a special way to say THANKS to our wonderful and dedicated volunteers that help make the Evergreen Club the success it is. There was a lot of superb music from earlier times and even our very own Elvis dropped by. There were also numerous prizes won and a "who knew Elvis best" game that we all got to participate in. Guess who won???
Name tags are on the way. Some folks wanted them as a way to help build community within the club. The name tags will be ready in early May. They will cost $10 and will be sold as a club fundraiser. On Sunday May 14th the Evergreen Club will present the Comox Valley Concert Band and they will be providing a Mother's Day Celebration Concert called Soundtrack Flashback. The featured songs will recall some of our early experiences as listeners and performers. Tickets are ten bucks and will be available at the door. May 16th will bring Robb Flannery to our club to give a presentation on "Reverse Mortgages". Robb is the Senior Mortgage Advisor with Bayfield Mortgage Professionals in Courtenay. The information that Robb has for you could be very valuable to our members at this point in their lives. If you still own a home, are 55 years or older and have some equity in that home, a reverse mortgage may be just the thing to make your remaining years much more comfortable. There is no cost to attend and Janet has more information.
And now something in a simpler vein before I depart....a) The ability to speak several languages is an asset, but the ability to keep your mouth shut in any language is priceless.......b) had an interview and they said the stating salary was forty thousand but could go up to eighty thousand later...I said "GREAT, I'll start later..........c) when I have a headache I take Two Aspirin and keep away from children...just like the bottle says.........
"ADIOS Compadres"....gk
