President’s Message - January 2025

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Greetings everyone...The year 2024 seems to have passed us by and here we go with a something called "Two Thousand and Twenty Five" which from now on will be referred to as "2025". As January 2025 unfolds with its fresh beginnings and a promise of new memories we must take a few moments to look back at how good the year of 2024 was for the Evergreen Club. COVID had left us a bit tattered and torn and it took a little time to show the kind of recovery that we needed. Our membership numbers have certainly rebounded and continue to grow as I speak activity clubs have grown along with the membership increase. These are the very important items that keep our club in great condition. Here I would like to mention our very dedicated volunteers as it takes the strength of that group to keep our club running smoothly. As members we are all volunteers in various ways and then there are those who go above and beyond. To all I would like to say a very big "THANK YOU" for what you do to make this club what it is. So we say a fond farewell to 2024 and think now of 2025. Think of it as a blank canvass eagerly awaiting the colourful strokes of new club experiences. Each and everyone of you will have the opportunity to help with those new experiences of 2025 that will grow this club to even greater heights.

Something that always seems to pop up this time of year is the topic of New Year’s Resolutions. It seems to start as people think about changes that they would like to see in their day to day lives... some big, some small. It seems that making these resolutions leads us to think that we are starting out the new year in a healthy way. Unfortunately many of these resolutions never last too long and the second Friday of January is often referred to as “Quitter’s Day”... a point where we throw in the towel and revert back to our old ways. Consider a couple of tips that have been passed along over the years that may help. Discipline is utmost so in order to discipline yourself, consider your choices wisely and do not set your goals at a point that even YOU know you will fall short of. Remember that a little discipline can often lead to more discipline... and then even more... and maybe even more. This is all part of the tug and pull of goal setting where by starting small and accomplishing part of a goal, you can build on those small beginnings. Listen to yourself and make the little things mandatory. You may surprise yourself. And when you have settled into your new routine... accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in what will be. And most of all never forget that waking up each morning is still the first thing we should be most grateful for. Good Luck with the resolutions.

And that’s about a wrap for this time around. I wish you all a “VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR “ and may 2025 meet your hopes and expectations... Adios... gk
