President’s Message - February 2025

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Greetings once again to all... January has come and gone more quickly than we SENIORS had probably wished for. My experience with aging is something I had hoped would be a little more moderate in it's pace... sneaks by pretty quickly, does it not? Very valuable time, these remaining years. Things have very quickly happened at our club and most all of our activities are back at full speed normal after our Christmas and New Year’s break. Just a gentle reminder that the Evergreen version of Lunar New Year Celebrations will be happening this Friday. The Suona Gang Band from Taiwan will be here in concert with their mix of cultural heritage music and contemporary tunes. There will also be snack food appropriate to the occasion.

February of course brings with it "Valentine’s Day". This day, has over the years, come to be the day when partners and married couples show their devoted love for each other. Plenty of red hearts and cards of caring and love are very popular. Here at the Evergreen we will have a Valentine’s Party starting at 1:30 pm. Christina Wilson will be performing. The Friday Night Dance will be themed "VALENTINE’S DAY" that evening. Our Dance Gurus, Mary and Peggy will have some surprises in store and "The Amigos" will be there providing the music. Friday Night Dance will have new hours starting in February. New dance hours will be 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

I have some great travel news for you to think about. The ever popular Blue Jays/Seattle Mariners baseball package is available for 2025. This year it happens throughout a weekend in May. Dates of the trip are May 9th to May 12th and the package is presented by Square 1 Travel. The package includes coach travel, (including ferries) 3 nights accommodation at the Embassy suites in downtown Seattle, 3 game tickets, daily breakfast made to order, evening cocktail reception, a $25 T Mobile gift card and a tour host. The package prices are $2399 pp single, $1599 pp double and $1399 pp triple. Those interested can register on the interest list reception and a flyer will be available. I know that this trip interests a lot of our members so if you are one of those I would not hesitate to check it out. A couple of other trips available in February are a Candlelight Concert in Nanaimo on Saturday, February 15th and Thrift Store Crawl on Friday, February 21st.

A quick Valentine’s Day Joke to end it all... “What is the difference between a calendar and you"... The calendar has a date... and one more... "I asked a friend if he had bought his wife a Valentines gift... He's a bit of a chauvinist so I was surprised when he said yes, I bought her a bag and a belt... I though that was quite thoughtful... and then he added, now maybe the vacuum will work a little better... ADIOS!!...gk
