President’s Message - March 2025

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Greetings one and all!!... March it is, as 28 day February fades into the distance. March is that transition month when we begin giving thought to "Springy Things". March symbolizes transformation and new growth as it bridges winter to spring and we associate it with spring cleaning rituals. Here at the Evergreen we are well into our spring thoughts and summer preparation. We will be celebrating a St. Patrick's day "PUB NIGHT" in the Conference Hall on Saturday March 15th from 7:30 to 10:30 pm. There will be a licensed bar with beer, wine, cider and snacks available for purchase. Music will be provided by "Island Time", a duo of Heather Sprout and Perry Johnson. There is still one performance of "Mamma Mia" available to our members (the matinee show is now full). The evening performance is on Wednesday, March 19th. More details can be found on the Trips Page on page 15 of the newsletter. I would also like to remind club reps of the Club Rep meeting on Monday, March 10th at 11:00 am. I would also like to remind you of some upcoming dates of interest. The Cirque Du Soleil trip is set for Sunday, May 11th at the Save on Foods Arena in Victoria. Details in this newsletter. There are also three upcoming dates for the Chemainus Theatre... "Baskerville", a Sherloch Holms mystery on May 28th . "Home to Roost" on October 8 th and "Elf the Musical" on December 3rd. There is also a planned trip to Powell River on Saturday, June 21st for "Prisma", Festivals Sail to the Symphony. All dates to keep in mind.

Before I leave you I'd like to talk about something referred to as "The 1%ers". Many of us are part of this group and some may not even know about it. I heard the term sometime ago and as I was apparently part of it I needed to know a little more about it. It appears that 99% of people born between 1930 and 1946 have now passed and believe it or not only 1% of that age group are still around. That sounded somewhat skeptical to me initially but after digging into the subject a bit it appears so. If you were born in this time span your ages range between 77 and 93 and you are one of the rare one-percenters. I know that I fit the bill and obviously many of you do as well. Again I say that many of you may be well aware of this but I'm sure that there are some....like me ....who will be surprised at these numbers. I will not go further at this time on the as space is an issue, but there is a lot of interesting information about the 1%ers on line so I'll let you do the looking.

It's time to bid you adieu for this issue but before doing so I'll leave you with this....."The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything.... they just make the best of everything the have"........ADIOS!!...gk
