President’s Message - October 2024

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Greetings all!!.. Another month has passed us by and now all we have to look forward to are shorter days and longer nights. Fret not though as the Evergreen is in full swing during these dreary fall and winter days. It’s time to prepare for winter mode ‘cause it’s right around the corner. This past Monday was a big and important day for the club as we celebrated the 2024 edition of Evergreen Club Open House. It was our opportunity to show ourselves off and it appears that we did a pretty good job. Information booths, club activities, entertainment and prizes were all part of the day and all went very well. We estimate that somewhere over 300 guests stopped by to see what we were all about. I’m sure that we will see an increase in memberships as a result as many of the newbies were quite impressed with what we have for that 55+ crowd. We offer over 50 clubs within the Evergreen and most of them were on display during our day with over 100 of our members in full volunteer mode.

Many thanks go out to those guys and gals that gave their time to make our visitors welcome and offer their expertise in their individual clubs. Our leadership team, lead by Janet, did an outstanding job of planning the event and making it the success it was. Even our newest hire, Rebecca was with us, and was a busy person.

Of course a Big Thanks to all the wonderful folks who dropped by for a taste of Evergreen Hospitality.... we hope you went away satisfied with all you saw and will come back and join us.

Just a couple of more things to mention... Dice Hockey and Bible Study will be two new clubs added to our ever growing list. There will be an Evergreen Craft Market on Friday, October 25th (12:00 noon to 7:00 pm) and Saturday, October 26th (10:00 am to 4:00 pm). It will be held in the Rotary Hall and provide an opportunity to browse a selection of hand made items which will include home baking and canning. I would also mention our upcoming 50's & 60's Pub Night on Friday, October18th. Dancing starts at 7:30 with nothing but GREAT 50s and 60' tunes provided by BIG DADDY'S DJ Services. Little Richard, Elvis, The Beatles, and so many more will entertain you. It is a Club fundraiser so come on down and live the memories of those earlier years. Refreshments will be available. By the way... ADVANCE TICKETS ONLY for this event.

That's a wrap for now folks... but before I go a quick one... It seems that a lady recently put an ad in the classifieds under "Husband Wanted"... the next day she received over a hundred e-mails saying the same thing... "YOU CAN HAVE MINE"... ADIOS my friends... gk
