President’s Message - March 2023
A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
Once again, it's "HI TO EVERYONE... it's March and time to grind out another one of those monthly messages. Once again I moan at the rapid pace of time. It seems I was sitting here mere days ago getting one together for the month of February and all at once February has come and almost gone. There is not a lot to pass along because everything at the club has been running along quite smoothly THANKS to our wonderful staff. Our membership continues to evolve from the frightening numbers of the pandemic era and the new growth has spawned new activity. At latest count there are 47 individual activity clubs operating within the parent Evergreen Club. That’s a lot of clubs and a lot of clubs constitute a lot of activity. From amongst our membership we are blessed with many great volunteers and that's the heart of the operation. Without these members volunteering as they do, it would impossible to make things run as well as it does. I am so pleased to see this all happening so well...MANY, MANY THANKS.
A FEW UPDATES I've heard through the grapevine that the free members Valentine's Party went very well. They tell me that Greg, our singing custodian, was in fine voice and provided some great entertainment, "THANKS GREG", you are much more than hired help. From all reports, the garage sale went very well. I don't have any numbers yet but I'm sure Janet will have those shortly. Our members were very generous with their donations and they donated a lot of great items...THANK YOU!!!
One of our newest clubs is the “Afternoon Social Dance Club”, they had 30 members out to their first dance afternoon. They meet on the second and fourth Mondays of the month in the Conference Hall at 12:30 pm to 2pm. The Cue Sports room now has extended hours and is open on some evenings. A couple of new purchases: a new table tennis table for the Table Tennis Club and a new Industrial Coffee Maker for the kitchen purchased with Evergreen Club funds. Our Tax Program starts up Wednesday March 8th, the Evergreen Club tax volunteers are available to electronically file income tax returns, info sheets and details are available in the lobby.
I’d like to go back for a moment to something our Coordinator, Janet, said in the February newsletter....it was very relevant and bears repeating: “I am constantly amazed by the deep sense of community at the Evergreen Club. As we all grow older we can keep connections with people who share our interests, who like us, want to have fun, who care for each other and who continue to enjoy activities in an atmosphere of support. Thanks everyone for making this such a special place.
And finally a couple of ZINGERS from this strange world we are now living in. Apparently parents today cannot raise their children the way that their parents raised them because their parents raised them in a world that no longer seems to exist... And another interesting one...We seem to be living in a time now where intelligent people are being silenced so that stupid people won’t be offended.......AND HERE ENDETH THE LESSON!!!.....ADIOS!!!....gk.
