President’s Message - October 2025

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Greeting all!!.. It really has happened... while we were enjoying those fading days of summer sunshine, the October 21st “Fall Guy” came along and officially changed the season. We are now fall guys and are soon to enjoy that winter triad of the months November, December and January, those times of cold rain, ugly wind and yes... maybe even snow. I can hardly wait, but before we do, let’s all enjoy the fruits of October and all we have planned for you.

First a couple of good news stories. As you already know, or at least I hope you know, our Evergreen Club relies on donations, grants, special events, kitchen sales and membership fees to provide the funds necessary to do what we do and to provide what we provide. Well, good news on the donation subject as we have recently received some generous donations from a few members/past members; Barb Mueller, Sheila Lory and Rita Dalby. Those are the kind of thing that make your day.

Another piece of news is the change at the top... a change of command as we old military guys call it. As of November 1st our girl Rebecca takes over as Executive Director of the club and our present director Janet will stay attached in an advisory role on a part time basis. Good luck to Rebecca and a “HUGE THANK YOU” Janet for her dedication and job well done.

Now onto club stuff. On Thursday, October 3rd it's the "October Pub Night" with a duo called "Rukus". I have heard the boys several time and they provide a great mix of music that is great for both listening and dancing. There is a licensed bar with beer, wine and cider and snacks are available for purchase. On Wednesday, October 8th it's a Turkey lunch with a line dancing lesson and The Heartstrings performing. On Thursday, October 23rd it's "Songs Turning 60” fundraiser. Relive the great tunes of the "'60's with our own House Band. Since it's Halloween time, there is a Halloween Party on Friday, October 31 st ... COSTUMES ENCOURAGED. On Sunday, November 2 nd and Monday the 3 rd , The Second Stage Players present The Hurdy Gurdy Inn... a light hearted play. Friday Night Dances are on October 10th and 24th . And for the folks who love that 60's music, The Sid has got a couple of great shows in October/November ... on Saturday, October 11 th it's Michael Sicoly & Mick Dell-Vee (The music of John Lenon & Paul McCartney) and on Thursday, November 20th a Neil Diamond tribute with Jay White. These are both TOP- NOTCH.

That's about a wrap but a couple of things before I go: Procrastination is totally a good thing as you will always have something to do tomorrow and have nothing to do today... and... apparently studies show that cows produce more milk when the farmer talks to them... a case of in one ear and out the udder.

Adios my friends...gk
