The Evergreen Club Is Re-Opening!

A message from Janet Hutchinson (Executive Director, Courtenay Recreation Association)

The Evergreen Club is extremely pleased to announce our gradual reopening this summer starting the week of July 19th. The Summer newsletter delayed until a definite date could be announced. We can’t fling open the doors, but some of our Activity Clubs will restart over the summer ,while other Activity Clubs are waiting until September to get started again. The Evergreen Club is reopening with careful consideration and a robust Communicable Disease Plan in place protect our members and staff. Please read though our plan on page 5 so you are well informed on the measures we have in place for our health and safety. The September newsletter will have more detail on our plans for the fall.

Clubs scheduled to reopen are listed on page 4. At this time the FIlberg Centre is only open if you are pre-pregistered to attend a specific Evergreen Club Activity. Please see the information on page 4 if you want to attend a program this summer. Times and locations for your Activity Club may be different from the pre-pandemic weekly meetings, but we have tried to make it as close as possible to the original schedule. Our outdoor Activity Clubs, Walk & Talk, Cycling, and Slo Pitch are in operation, as well as our new summertime activities: Beach Hour, Trail Walkers, and Trivia Afternoons. We hope to open EG Lounge Food Services by August 3rd. We are very excited to offer our snacks and meals again and to see you all visiting together in the lounge.

Though some Activity Clubs will operate over the summer, access to the Florence Filberg Centre will still be limited. The upper level entrance will not be open to the Evergreen Club members or the public as the Covid 19 Vaccination Clinic is now running out of the Conference Hall. Parking is also going to be tight with the Vaccination Clinic, the bridge repairs and no street parking on Anderton Avenue. Consider carpooling, taking transit or having someone drop you off. If you use the upper parking lot plan to take the outside stairs down to the lower level. If you use the lower parking lot be prepared to wait to exit the parking lot.

Well that’s the business side of things. Now on to the fun part. Read through the newsletter and see what you’d like to do at the Evergreen Cub in the coming months. Evergreen Club staff and volunteers will be on hand to welcome you back and answer questions about our new normal.

See you at the club!

Janet

The next message from our president, Gord Kruger, will in the September edition of the Evergreen Club Newsletter.
