President’s Message - May 2025

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Greetings Everyone... The wonderful month of May is upon us... often called the month of transition where it's all about "SPRINGTIME" and the real treat of "SUMMER" closely following not too far behind with its plethora of outdoor activities. In our part of the world it brings an end to the cool winds and rain of early spring. Flowers spring from the ground and what's left of the song birds wake us each morning... just a great time of year. May 1st is referred to as "May Day", the half way point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. Here at the Evergreen it opens a number of great outdoor activities. Slo-Pitch for example has seen an increased amount of interest for the upcoming season and bicycles will once again be popular. It's your "SUMMER WORLD" so get on out there and enjoy all this natural beauty we have around us.

Some things that are happening at the Evergreen in the month of May include the "Pub Night" on Friday, May 2nd. The music that evening will be provided by a band called "Upbeat". It's a rock and roll night with music from the 50's, 60's and 70's, starting at 7:00 pm. This will be followed by "Trip The Light Fantastic" with the Comox Valley Concert Band on Sunday, May 11th. The event starts at 2:00 pm and tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door. The Volunteer Appreciation Lunch will be held on Monday, May 12th with further details in this newsletter. And then it's on to the "Evergreen Spring Ball" on Saturday May 31st from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm in the Conference Hall. DJ VaLori will get you up and dancing to many styles of dance including swing, Latin, two-step and more. This is your opportunity to dress up for an elegant evening of dancing. Non-alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase and tickets are available for advance purchase or may be purchased at the door. This is an Evergreen fundraiser. There is also a trip to the Chemainus Theatre on Wednesday, May 28th to see Baskerville - A Sherlock Holmes Mystery. Further details are in this newsletter.

Before leaving you, here are a couple of gems from the lips of Stephen Wright, an actor and comedian who is known for his unique style and content... "A clear conscience is usually the sign of bad memory"... "Depression is merely anger without enthusiasm"... "Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.” That's about a wrap for now folks... ADIOS!!!... and enjoy the great spring weather. Gord
