January 2021 - President’s Message

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Greetings to all!!...here's hoping that each of you enjoyed as good a Christmas as possible under the strangest of Christmas circumstances that we could ever have imagined. With everyone pre-occupied with what Dr. Bonny called their "personal bubble" it seemed to me the strangest of times. Sitting across the table from my gal Marina and looking over a perfectly cooked turkey with all the trimmings just didn't seem right somehow. Where in the world were all those beautiful people that we normally celebrated with.....but I digress. We can only hope that these new kinds of celebration don't become a habit.

We have now had the opportunity to see and experience 2020.....we were there and we saw it and lived it. I'm sure that when this whole mess started many, and myself included believed that it was just another one of those life experiences that come along to try us from time to time. It's obviously turned out to be just a bit more. I would like to believe that better times are ahead, that 2021 will be a time of transition to something a whole lot better. Almost without exception each of us has faced challenges and difficulties in the year passed that at times almost became overwhelming. But here we are....still able to look for that light at the end of the tunnel. Hope springs eternal my friends.

There really are good things happening out there that should give us all hope for better times. Now is not the time to abandon all those measures that we have put in place. The people that guide us with these measures tell us repeatedly to hang in there......they tell us there is an end in sight....that with continued good health measures and adhering to them and accepting the new availability of vaccines, we will overcome. I certainly hope they are right and I for one will place my faith in these guiding principles. I would hope that you will too. Covid Fatigue is all around us. We are all tired of the social isolation that we been forced to accept. Hand shaking and hugs will return and things will get back to some kind of normality.......and the "Good Old Evergreen Club" will be back in business.

STAY SAFE and STAY WELL my friends........and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.........Adios....gk
