President’s Message - July/August 2024
A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president
Greetings All!! Summer is officially and apparently here....at least by tradition and date it is. June 21, 2024 was the day but with some of the grey skies and somewhat cooler temperatures we've had it seems we are off to a questionable start. However rest assured that things will get better, in fact much better, as we move along into July and August. I took a little time to do some research and I've got some pretty good news to pass along. We are all wishing for sunshine and warmth for the next couple of months and in fact as Canadians, we very much look forward to it, and even dream about it. Well, are our dreams are looking to become a reality as the Weather Network's summer forecast for the majority of Canadians is for warmer than normal temperatures, fewer rainy days than the typical summer, and more sunshine than normal. A slight catch however as the word MAJORITY means slightly east of us and extending eastward. We on the western edge of the country will be closer to normal conditions. But it's looking good for those of us who might be heading east for our summer getaway.
Enough of my weather thoughts and a little about the Evergreen. Things will probably slow down a little at the Evergreen over July and August as some of our clubs take a break over those two summer months. It’s a good idea to check with your activity club leadership if you are unsure of your particular club’s summer plans.
One of our big summer activities is right around the corner as Monday July 1st is Canada Day and is the day the Evergreen Club hosts the July 1st Tea Dance at the Native Sons Hall. We host this event as part of Courtenay's Canada Day celebrations. It all gets going at 2 pm and admission is "FREE". The music will be provided by the Georgia Strait Big Band. Cake and beverages will be served and it's "Fun for Everyone"...don't miss it. And if you want to drop by the Courtenay Legion before going home, I will be there with the band from 2 to 5. Drop by and say hi. Another summer date to remember is Wednesday August 28th as that is when the club hosts our "Ice Cream Social" at Riverside Park across from the Filberg...it's also "FREE" and you can bring a friend. Friday Night Dances will continue over the summer and all 9 Friday nights in July and August will have dances. By the way, our Friday Night Dances have been popular and well attended....and I THANK YOU for that. And just to add...a couple of bus trips in July to consider. A Cowichan Valley winery tour on Thursday July 24th and the musical "9 to 5" at the Chemainus Theatre on Wednesday July 24th.....details for both are in the newsletter.
And as a closer. I would like to introduce our newest "Executive Committee member, Maria Raeli. Maria attended her initial board meeting in June......WELCOME MARIA.
So that's a wrap for the summer...see you all again in September..."ADIOS AMIGOS" .......gk
