President’s Message - December 2022/January 2023

A message from Gord Kruger, Evergreen Club president

Greetings Everyone!!!....don't look now but it's that time again.....the yuletide is upon us. Christmas is again with us and it hopefully will be one of a more normal kind after all the happenings of the past couple of years of Covid and such. Even Santa is back in form as witnessed at the recent Santa Parade in Victoria. Families were back out there in great numbers to experience the traditional stuff that happens along a Santa Claus Parade route.

And we at the Evergreen are geared up as well so that we may celebrate the season in more normal ways. Our Evergreen Club Christmas Craft Market is already in the rear view as it was held on Wednesday November 23rd. From all reports it was a very successful event and the club was able to make some good money. There was considerable support from our members for our Evergreen Club Tables. The Christmas thing continues on Friday December 2nd as the Evergreen Club Choristers present a "Traditional Sing-Along" from 10:30 am until 11:30 am. Admission is by donation and y'all are invited to come out and join in with some great holiday music. That musical event will be followed up on Sunday, December 4th with another as the Comox Valley Concert Band presents "Music For A Ceremony" at 2pm in the Conference Hall. The theme is music for a ceremony and will include some seasonal favorites. Tickets will be available at the door and doors open at 1:30pm.

The club will then have a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings and dessert on Wednesday December 21st. You are invited to bring a guest if you wish to for this wonderful Christmas meal.

To wrap up the year and celebrate the year past the Evergreen Club is having a “New Years Eve Dance Party” at the Filberg Rotary Hall. The evening will include music by The Amigos and sweet and savory snacks will be served at the break. There will be a beer and wine cash bar, spot dances and door prizes, and a complimentary drink to ring in the New Year. Members and non-members are welcome. This will be a great way to wrap-up ‘22 and welcome in ‘23. And don’t forget to bring along your resolutions.

That’s a wrap for now folks but just a quick reminder.......”You know you’re getting old when your recliner and a heating pad is your idea of a hot date”.....ADIOS!!!....gk
